To All Christians Who Hate…

In my imagination, Jesus is walking somewhere in Ghana — probably on a busy street on a market day. He sees many Ghanaians shouting “come to my house” but he keeps walking. He seems to be going somewhere, the Christians are surprised because Jesus is heading towards a closed office, towards an oppressed people. Jesus smiles as he sees these outcasts, they’re afraid and are hiding. He throws opens his arms and they rush in for a hug, he tells them how much he loves them.

The Christians are stunned into silence, they regain their voice and begin to accuse Jesus. They ask, “Why are you here?”, “Why are you hugging them?” “Have you not read the Holy Book?” Jesus turns to them and says “You hypocrites! you support people who steal, who abuse women, who engage in fornication and adultery, who don’t respect authority. You support Christians who clearly disobey the Word but because of their wealth you give them positions in the church, you invite politicians to campaign in the church, you sell in the church, you break down houses to build my temple while some of my children perish because they have no classrooms to study, you think some ethnic groups are superior to others and you silence the voice of others. You support pastors who sleep with people’s wives, you encourage rape culture in Ghana by making fun of it, you are afraid to speak against corrupt power, you hate rather than show love, you hate, you hate…”
